With Eclectic Sessions Volume 2, Ramp Local label-head Jake Saunders has assembled a 21-track compilation composed of artists that he feels are central to his identity as a curator, promoter, and consumer of music. “Over the last year [working on] Ramp Local has helped me personify my own identity crisis, which I believe has manifested through my music taste.” says Saunders. Working his musical journey from booking shows to releasing tapes, the compilation draws from Saunders extended-network of cherished musicians. Recording projects and one-off tracks from Ramp Local mainstays The Cradle, Nina Ryser, Old Maybe are joined by cuts from PC Worship, Giant Claw, Simon Hanes (Tredici Baci), Macula Dog, Eartheater, Zula and more. The resulting collection of tracks is thematically united in its exploration of the relationship between “chaos and order” and how that conflict manifests both musically and mentally. While Volume 1 focused on live performance, Eclectic Sessions Volume 2 is built from unpolished demos, unreleased recording projects and alternative sessions. Working outside the thematic confines of a full-length, Eclectic Sessions unleashes a broad group of artists, free to explore their most esoteric concepts in all their distorted glory. “There was an overwhelming sense of diversity among artists who could all be loosely or directly associated with one another.” says Saunders. “I began to look at my own struggles with identity in the context of musicians who relate similar feelings in their music. Many of us are torn between our inherently narcissistic desire to become “known” and our love for the obscure.”
